Philippines’ Typhoon Ondoy death toll hits 293

The number of victims Typhoon Ondoy (also known as Ketsana) has claimed continues to climb, rising to about 293 deaths. In addition, more than 680,000 people are crammed into shelters. The AP reported it as the worst flooding in four decades.

Although I’ve never been to the Philippines, I have a soft spot for the country since my dad spent the early years of his life there. It breaks my heart to see pictures like the one below. Ondoy has also wreaked havoc in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, with estimates of 406 dead in Southeast Asia.

As we fobs know, the Chinese believe that bad things happen in threes. A tsunami killed about 150 people people on Tuesday while wrecking American and Western Samoa.  Then, elsewhere in Asia, deaths reached 1,100 in Indonesia from two quakes that happened on Wednesday and Thursday in the city of Padang.

Search for “nude” and “anime” to reach our blog

Alright, I don’t know what kind of fanbase we’re gathering, but I checked out our blog stats, and the top three search terms that lead people to our blog today are “pregnant anime girls” “Japanese anime girls” and “Japanese pretty nude women.”  Yesterday it was “Japanese boobie snack treat” “lucky mole nose Philippines” and “Hitomi j-pop singer.” I guess this means our audience is pretty diverse.

It’s Suzie’s boobie cake post and pregnant entry that is attracting viewers. Oh, and not to forget Amy’s wonderful piece on the hairy mole.

Another new MJ dance tribute by Filipino prisoners

Looks like the Filipino inmates are still continuing the Michael Jackson legacy.  This time, fully equipped with white gloves and black hats, these inmates show off new and improved dance moves to their own rendition of Dangerous.

With the crowd cheering and choreographed moonwalks, these prisoners are coming in as convicts and leaving as professional dancers.

Alternative transportation in Asia still greenest and cheapest

It might not be the speediest form of transportation, but it’s certainly environmentally-friendly.   In this new era of hybrids cars and natural gas vehicles, nothing is still quite as green as the bicycle trishaws  found in Asia.  These bicycle-driven vehicles are one of my favorite forms of transportation because it provides a unique view on the city that you can’t get from an air-conditioned car.

Different countries have their own names for these three-wheeled taxis–samlor in Thailand, trisikad in the Philippines, saika in Burma–but in all cases, they are zero-emissions and very affordable.  But, as with anything in Asia, make sure you bargain for the ride before you get on!

Philippine jailbirds recreate MJ dance tribute today

What is incredible about my childhood idol, Michael Jackson, was that his music transcended cultural boundaries and reached even far-flung locales.  A prime example of MJ’s staggering international influence?  1,400 Filipino convicts dancing to “Thriller” inside a Cebu jail.  The performance became a worldwide YouTube hit in 2007, and as a tribute to their dead star, the jailbirds will be recreating their performance today.

RIP MJ.  From Cebu to Singapore to Japan to Vietnam and beyond, your music will live forever.
